On August 11, 2023, Professor Wei Yi-Ming, Director of the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research, led a team of faculty and students to conduct a research visit to the Qingxu Fine Chemical Circular Industrial Park in Shanxi Province.

The research team, guided by Mr. Ma Kai, the Regional General Manager of Meijin Hydrogen Energy's Shanxi division, visited Meijin Hydrogen Energy's full industry chain layout, which includes "coal mining, coking plant, high-purity hydrogen, and hydrogen metallurgy." They gained insights into advanced manufacturing technologies and the industrial chain's safety monitoring data platform. Additionally, they had the opportunity to experience hydrogen-powered buses within the park. During the visit to Shanxi Gengyang New Energy Co., Ltd., the team was briefed by Mr. Wang Guibao, the Chief Engineer, on Gengyang Group's industrial layout, production scale, advanced equipment technologies, and processes. The focus of this part of the visit was on high-end carbon materials and their application areas. Under the guidance of Mr. Zhao Chuangqun, Assistant General Manager and Production Department Manager at Yaxin New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., the group explored Yaxin's fine chemical industry chain, cultural tourism and health industry, high-tech materials industry, and other aspects of the group's industrial chain planning and layout. They also learned about high-tech materials products like basalt fiber and visited Yaxin's Digital Intelligence Center and Environmental Information Management Platform.

Following the tours, the research team held discussions and exchanges with Han Qian, the Director of the Investment and Cooperation Department of Qingxu Economic Development Zone, and various company leaders. The discussions covered topics such as production management, policy implementation, emission reduction efforts, and development plans.
